Adventures in Dining

It's always good to keep a log of what you eat and when. I rarely need to do this because:
I take it to a WHOLE NEW LEVEL!

I'm so lame, I get the same sandwich every time we go to dinner...
Wheat Sub
With:
Italian Dressing
Turkey
Lettuce
Cucumbers
and EXTRA dill pickles

SUMMER!

What is a Cadet to do when basic training doesn't work out?
Office of the Registrar
Summer School!
I just realized that since basic training might not work out this summer :(, I should probably consider doing something productive for the entire summer.

In my research thus far I have learned the following:
  • Housing in NYC is REALLY expensive, meaning,
  • I have to find a decent-paying job with:
  • Lots of hours.
  • I have to see if Potsdam even accepts these credits, which they should...
  • I have to find an apartment because there is limited housing on campus.
All while keeping the end of this semester under control.
Only three (3) weeks left of my freshman year of college!!! :O Where has time gone?

Free Thought Alliance

Tonight I attended an interest meeting for the Potsdam Free-Thought Alliance. Initially I was expecting to be the black sheep who was a Catholic. Thankfully, I wasn't the only one. It was made abundantly clear that there will, or hopefully won't be, any serious judgement, just a good deal of talking.

A friend (PosterChild) of mine brought this whole concept of "rational thought" to my attention in the form of a book. (Yep, I sold out for a book, pretty sad, I know.)

I'm learning a great deal, but I'm also questioning everything I learned as a little girl.

These websites are two that I checked out at PosterChild's recommendation:
www.randi.org
and a podcast site
www.theskepticguide.org

Questions, questions and more questions. . . no answers.

Ciao for now ;)

A few things

So my dahling LadyFunk, seen in the scarf on the left, and I were discussing joining the Crew Team over at Clarkson University. It's obviously a work in progress as the semester is almost over, but it's on the table for next year.

We're talking about it because we both want a way to stay in shape and have a dandy time! I'm also considering swimming, but after some consideration, Crew sounds like an interesting way to try something new.

What's great about joining a sports team is that it counts as PT as long for the duration of the season. I think that I'd be more motivated to work out every day if there is a clear goal in mind. It would also help me get closer to the magical 300 PT score. ;-)

This is the men's team at MIT. To my knowledge, Clarkson University doesn't have a DI team, but as a future firsty in crew, it's PERFECT!

Ciao :)

Extreme Boredom part 3

So I said that I didn't have a boyfriend. I don't, Colin and I aren't dating. We're not fooling around either, so don't even go there. We just hang out, see movies, eat dinner, ok, we date, but we're not *dating*. Colin doesn't go here, he goes to the ROTC host school. That's how we met, and last year was a "get to know one another" year, we started hanging out at the end of last semester. But last week when we came up for ROTC activities we started getting together afterwards to just hang out.

I feel bad, I haven't told Isadora, Elaine, or Sophie yet. I keep meaning to, but we did just move in and all. Anyway, we have other things to discuss, and all of those take priority over my would/should/could be boyfriend that I am NOT dating.

They're presently discussing the weather, so enthralling. I'd introduce the far more interesting subject, but it's not time for the boys to hear just yet.

Dinner passes without incident, and we say goodbye to the guys and head to our suite. Our room is SO disorganized, time to get down to it.

"Let's tackle our rooms first, then get this living room sitch figured out.", says Isadora.

"Sounds good. We don't have too much to do in there anyway, you got big closet, I got window area."

Isadora and I head over to our room, and leave Elaine and Sophie to handle theirs.

I was wrong. I'd forgotten just how much space I needed for school, club, and ROTC stuff, and how little space there *actually* was in a dorm. I decided to go with the standard Rubbermaid container for shoes and ROTC gear under the bed. My bed went along the window. Isadora's was along the wall, the foot of her bed was on the opposite wall. I personally like as little out in the room as possible, so I had a good 2 feet of extra height thanks to bed risers and cinder blocks. I packed a step stool to help me get up, but there was no way that I was going to suffer through a year with less space. While I was folding clothes and putting them away, I decided that now would be a decent time to tell Isadora.

"Izz, you know I've been here for a week already, right?", I asked.

"Yea, why?"

"Well Colin Halpert and I have been hanging out recently. Like, a lot."

"Ok, what? I thought you were all into that Austin guy."

"Well I am, but Colin and I have been hanging out, as I said."

Must Must Have

Oh. My. God. How cute is this little sun dress? I love it! I haven't had a chance to just surf the web recently, so today I finally had a chance to check out Lilly Pulitzer online.
Walsh Short Vintage Printed

I also completely love this entire outfit! The flats would actually be okay, because, well, they're adorable!

Hayden Cardigan

Ok, and again, a PERFECT, MUST-HAVE outfit! The cardigan is one that would take some warming to, but it's so cute. I really love the look of the texture!

Seeing all of this cute summer stuff makes me want summer to be here right now.

Have a splendid weekend!

Best Show I've Seen in Awhile

I've just discovered an amazing show on TV thanks to my dear roommate, AngelinaBallerina. It's CHUCK. I actually LOVE LOVE LOVE this show! It's about a man who has a super computer in his brain. He's being tailed by two operatives from the CIA and the NSA.

We've been sitting through the first season. I completely love it! It's on Mondays at 8:00EST. WATCH CHUCK!!

Extreme Boredom part 2

It’s nice to be back to obsess over different guys again. I live for liking different guys. It’s so strange, but I’ve self-diagnosed myself with GADD (Guy Attention Deficit Disorder). Sophie completely agrees with this diagnosis, Isadora just thinks I’m crazy.

It’s cool to be in the Union again. I’ll miss home-cooked food, but I get to check my mail again, which is right up there with waking up on your birthday if you get mail. Which reminds me, I need to get my textbooks on Monday morning.

Ugh, Monday morning means I have to wake up really super early for PT. Physical Training is the Army’s way of telling you to lose weight and get in shape without words. It is a horrid concept, especially since I detest running more than anything else in the world. That is the one thing I did not miss about school. Don’t get me wrong, I love being a citizen of CADETLand, but I could probably live without getting up at 0430 to sit up, push up, and run. Isadora is going to have a tough time with my alarm clock come Monday.

“Cassidy! Get your butt over here!”, Isadora shouted at me. I ran back to them. I was going toward the mail room, as is my habit, but since it’s our first day here, there’s a slim to none chance that I’d have any anyhow.

“Jeez, sorry Isadora, forgive my tendency to check my mail, as I often receive it.”, oh that was way snottier than I initially intended. “Sorry, Is. That wasn’t cool.”

“No big, Max said he’d send me care packages more often this semester.”, aaannnd there’s the sappy grin for Max. She’s absolutely crazy about her *man*friend. I cannot imagine being tied down to one boy...yet.

Easter Humor

This is me with my younger brother. DramaKid is so cute. After Mass we had to change out of our "good" clothes and into something comfortable.

We both walked downstairs wearing the outfit you see beside this typing. It was quite odd, and our mother just laughed and noted how "adorable" we were.

Happy Easter to everyone! The break was short, but worth it. I liked being home with my family. We spent the weekend relaxing, my mom and I watched Toy Story on Saturday.

We'd forgotten how great the movie was, and are really looking forward to the 3rd movie in the series. Unfortunately I will not be going to see the movie with them, but will be going to BASIC TRAINING instead. I'm SO looking forward to going to basic training. It's going to be a challenge, but I'm ready to take it on!

Ciao for now! :)

Very Blah

So, this week I spent the majority of my nights in a joint budget meeting between the two houses of student government here at school. It's been 14 hours, and we still haven't finalized the budget.

It's been tough, and I actually MISS going to regular Assembly meetings. They're much more relaxed, and the members actually understand Parliamentary Procedure. It's SO horribly funny when Senators say "I'd like to move to vote on previous question." In case you were wondering, that's not a motion. I've decided to get myself a copy of Robert's Rules of Order. It's essential for individuals in all levels of government.

The only downside to the awesome-ness of these meetings is my lack of energy. So much so that I have had to miss PT to get actual sleep. I feel really bad for missing, but I'm not contracted yet, so it's not required. After these proceedings are over, I will be back in the PT "game". I really don't mind waking up at 0445 to run. I always come back feeling ready for the day ahead.

As a contracted cadet (as I will be REALLY soon), I will not be permitted to miss PT. EVER. This is our uniform.

Yes, it's really strict, but it allows for proper movement. It's kind of interesting, but the Army won't allow soldiers to wear PT uniforms (called IPFUs or Individual Physical Fitness Uniform) while they are not at PT. This means that the soldiers who live on base need to go home, shower, change, THEN go and shop etc.

Well, that's all. In short: always nap before beginning budget meetings. They're entertaining, but last a LONG time. And it's obviously a good idea not to miss PT.
