Slight Delay, but eh

who cares? I mean I've survived, and I'm almost completely certain the internet has too, ohmygosh! It survived!

The reason for my lateness is that I was at Boyfriend's house this weekend, bonding with momma and MSG (that's Master Sergeant to me) of Boyfriend. It was WONDERFUL to get a home-cooked meal. Mrs. Boyfriend's Mom made the most fanTAStic corn chowder. (I have leftovers sitting in my fridge here at Canton). SO wonderful to see her again.

Since I'm behind in my postings, I'm going to be a tad lazy and send you over to CollegePrepster to check out her "TDF" Marley Lilly Monogrammed cups! (TDF is prep-speak for "to die for"). They really are super cute, and I'd just LOVE one in light pink with BVC on it. :)

Hey look, I even kinda blogged some ROTC stuff! xoxo

Preppy on a Budget

I for one love everything preppy, but that's sometimes a problem, especially since the going rate for a Lilly Pulitzer scarf is $118.00 plus tax.

So with the help of my fanTAStic mother, I worked out some pretty cute preppy looks for less.

  • Top Gap about - $15
  • Jacket American Eagle - $45 ($$plurge)
  • Shorts H&M - $30
  • Shoes Target - $9
  • Hat Layne Bryant - $13
  • Polo(s) Aeropostale - Buy One Get One FREE! $20
  • Pants Ann Taylor LOFT - $5 ($$teal! I found them at a thrift store!)
  • Shoes LL Bean $55 ($$plurge)
While I do have a number of other combos I want to show you, I'm feeling quite lazy and don't want to spoil possible future posts (I'm thinking series here?). So here are some hints to find cute things while staying on a "I plan on living on a soldier's income in the near future" budget.
  • Shop alone or with one person, any more and you get tempted.
  • Check out thrift stores. One wash and the clothes are nearly perfect.
  • While looking at thrift stores, look for labels, sometimes they're still there. My big win was a Lilly athletic shirt for $1.
  • Ebay, Ebay, Ebay! I love hunting for deals online, and it's rewarding to win.
  • See if what you have can work as a "classic" piece, so that it can transition from season to season.
There you have it guys. Shop for what you love, but within reason. xoxo

Thoughts

I promisepromisepromise to wait to post this until Friday, but I've been working on it since Tuesday evening because I was bored and I thought I might forget to mention something.

I was reading Boyfriend's ArmyStrong blog and he goes into some detail about how they now have Cadet NCO ranks. NCO is a Non-Commissioned Officer. They are essentially the back-bone of the Army and LORD KNOWS officers today could not survive without them. It's cool that they get these ranks to see what it's like to have actual responsibility to the Battalion and the Cadre members. Boyfriend is now a CSS, or a Cadet Staff Sergeant, which isn't terrible cadet-rank-wise.

This past Saturday we had the Army-vs-Air Force Hockey game. It was a total shut-out and the Army kicked butt with a score of 10-0!
This is the Army team, we had at least twice the number of people on our side which probably helped us win considerably. It was SO much fun to watch the game and catch up with the cadets I haven't seen since last semester due to my not being ROTC any longer.

After the game Boyfriend and I ran around like chickens without heads getting ready for the Army Dining Out. I've always explained it as Prom with no dancing, but it's more than that, it's a gathering of Army soldiers to celebrate their future sacrifice for their country. The speaker this year was MUCH better than last year's. He spoke about ownership, which was really important to me.

Though I'm not a cadet anymore, I'm now a (okay, I'm ALMOST) nursing major, and as such I will have a great deal to own up to. If I make a mistake it's my fault, and I need to be okay with that. It means a lot that many people will trust my judgement with their lives, it's a really incredible feeling to know that you have that much pressure on you. I hope it's rewarding.

My new realization is that old Disney Channel Original movies rocked. Seriously. I watched Luck of the Irish last night with my dad in the other room smiling at me like I was 10 years old again. I thought I was adorable, and I think he'd agree. Other favorites of mine were Cadet Kelly (big surprise), and Double Teamed (I used to think basketball was the coolest thing ever).

These were good movies, nobody really sang or danced in an unrealistic way, only one thing about this movie was goofy, but nobody cared because it had a leprechaun playing basketball. I think that High School Musical is great and all, but Disney movies became very lame and way too centered on the dynamics of boy-girl relationship nonsense. This is back when school really mattered and parents were actually seen on camera for more than "Can I borrow $200 mom?" so some yucklehead could skip school to see a lame concert or get a slutty dress to go to prom.

Sorry that rant is over. PHEW!

To end on a happier note: This is me with Boyfriend just before we left for the Dining Out. Cadet Side Note: my hair will be blonde-ified as of 4:00 pm so relax about the red head.

MOTIVATION!

Well, in a mix of boredom and a horrendous snowblizzardofDEATH Cadet side note: alright, not really of death, I'm from the belt in Rochester so this is nothing, I decided to return and be CDTPrep yet again.
*insert dance montage here*

Now that that's over we have some catching up to do.
In the past two months a LOT has changed with this Prepster.
  • I transfered (yes, TRANSFERRED!) to a different school! Gasp, but Brynna, that's so scary, how did you brave leaving Potsdam? Well reader, it was easy, kinda. I decided against my father's wishes that I had NO intention of ever becoming a member of the political atmosphere. The very idea of watching C-SPAN every WAKING moment of my career gave me hives. Upon finally coming to my senses and realizing this, I applied to another school, 20 minutes down the road from Potsdam, SUNY Canton. (Go Kangaroos?!) It's the closest school in my beloved North Country with a Nursing program.
  • No I'm not yet a nursing major. BUT I'm working really hard and ever so diligently on my awesome new classes (all science/math-based, none of this liberal arts shit)! So that being said I am taking Math (my favorite, the professor yells at us about our lack of parenthesis), Pathology (cool, but eh, I thought it would be better), Medical Terminology (very cool, just not Derm, Derm is gross), and last but most CERTAINLY LEAST Psychology. I HATE PSYCHOLOGY - that fact shall never change.
  • The Boyfriend is good. We argue more, but it's healthy, I hope. I consider it to be learning more about one another. I think it means that the honeymoon of new relationship time is done. Scary thought, huh, I never thought I'd annoy Boyfriend, but he takes my child-like tendencies in fanTAStic army stride.
  • I found a new (well new to me) blog called Hyperbole and a Half. (hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com) People, read.this.blog. You will laugh hysterically for the entire duration of the post.
On a more "preppy" note, I am LOVING the spring collection of Lilly Pulitzer! It so makes me wish I could wear my spring outfits already. Bad news Northern NYers, it's still too cold. (*dramatic siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh*)

I'm hoping that I'll be able to put up a new post at least once a week. Maybe Friday will be my blogging day. . . hmmmm very very tempting.

Anyway, I'm off to Boyfriend's to watch Adventureland and The [Facebook Movie] Social Network. Ciao Darlings. xoxo

Hmmmm. . . my bucket list is still somewhat long, but the number one thing
I want to do before I die is:

See the 7 Wonders of the [Modern] World!
